Project Leader at InterStrand, a consulting firm I owned and operated. Here I assembled and managed teams of developers, designers and writers to collaboratively create custom online solutions. In other words, I took the lead in weaving together all the strands involved in building a good web app. We created websites and enterprise-level applications for the NC Dept. of Human Health Services, the international Nickel Institute, and RTP tech firms.
Director of Product Development at Data-Dynamix , a boutique digital marketing provider specializing in mobile device targeting, programmatic display advertising, and third-party promotional email. In this role, I've tied together all the technical, leadership, and creative experiences from the course of my career to help Data-Dynamix thrive in its space, providing niche solutions to major media groups and elite advertising agencies from across the US.
Senior Web Analyst at General Dynamics , as part of SRA International, whom General Dynamics acquired. Here I managed all corporate digital marketing initiatives, including the company website, promotional microsites, SEO/traffic analytics, display advertising, first-party email marketing, and rebranding of acquired companies digital assets. But it wasn't all marketing! I developed a custom CMS for the corporate website (no way was I going to run that site in Drupal!), and led tons of user experience and information architecture testing. It paid dividends, our websites won multiple awards.
Webmaster at Constella Group, a clinical research firm who was, incidentally, acquired by SRA International. I developed a number of custom HRIS applications supporting the company's intranet, which I also was responsible for designing and developing. The most successful app I created was an online Personal Development Planning system, which saved everyone in the company time, and turned a stressful administrative burden for employees into a means to track goals fairly and efficiently.
I have both a
Master's
and
a
Bachelor's degree in English
from NC State University. How did an English major end up as web programmer? I learned Linux at NC State, and in my part-time job as technical writer for the Computing Center, I was given the opportunity to learn how to make our helpdesk repository searchabe online, and so I learned.
It just so happens that being able to articulate what is possible, and how to translate what is needed, is just as, if not more, important than remember the syntax for instantiating an object in JavaScript.
